Newfoundland

After our trip to B.C., I went to Newfoundland with my family. It was my first time on the Rock and I have now officially been to every province (though no territories). Newfoundland was pretty much exactly how I pictured it. Cold; foggy; the locals talked funny; liked to drink; etc. The reason for the trip was half business and half pleasure. Mom and Jules went to the Atlantic Independent Booksellers fair and Dad and I cruised around the outskirts of St. John's. It was a great time. I schmoozed with some book publishers and caught up with my agent, who says she still has faith in me. It was an excellent trip.
We went whale watching and saw a bunch of whales and puffins.

The houses in downtown St. John's are extremely cool. So colourful. This is a great picture Dad took (actually he took all of these). It's a picture of two guys fishing in Conception Bay. This is a lighthouse in Cape Spear (the easternmost point in North America).

We're Back Home

Well, 1 car, 4 planes, 1 bus and 1 taxi later (Lindsay also likes to count the bus and train connections in Toronto and Chicago) we are back in Taiwan. It is such a long journey but it was good. Japan Airlines was excellent and the Air Canada flight from Toronto to Chicago was surprisingly okay too. The plane from Chicago to Tokyo was half full so I was able to sprawl out on four seats and sleep a lot of it. Now we are back in our apartment, sweating and cleaning up. I think it feels good to be back but I'm not sure yet. It was such a great summer in Canada...

Kelowna

Hey guys,

As we mentioned before, we lost our camera and all our pictures from B.C. Thanks to Julie, we now have the Kelowna ones back. Here are a few:

Now, normally I'm quite indifferent towards babies and I don't usually pay too much attention to them. Not that I don't like them but you know. Anyway, there have always been exceptions to this and Jaida is certainly one. She is one of the cutest babies I've seen. She's always smiling and laughing and I didn't see her cry once (mind you she has a serious Cheerio addiction that should probably be dealt with). Anyway, I fell in love with her. Here's a picture of me giving Jaida her first guitar lesson. It took some time and patience but by the end, this eight month old could play Knockin' On Heaven's Door.

Trey Anastasio once said: Hammy's in the kitchen, the Captain's still in bed (at least that's what it sounds like he's saying). There's a half truth to this. The Captain certainly likes sleeping in but I've never seen Hammy cook a meal in my life. Anyway, here's the aforementioned pair swimming in Okanagan Lake.
Here's Jimi and Jaida. Jimi is drunk and Jaida has a Communist-style cap on. I love it! And here's a picture of the two lovely ladies. We are at a party outside of Kelowna. The deck overlooks the lake and that little white dot is the moon. It was very beautiful but the party turned into a late night which resulted in me being embarassingly hungover the next day (while everyone was eating steak and caeser, I was in the bathroom with my head in the toilet).

So there's a bit of a recap. The rest of the trip was great too and all our hosts were perfect. If there's any other pictures floating around, I'd love to see them (Jonny, do you have any good ones? Calhoun, did we take any photos? I don't think we did). Anyway, I'll talk to you all later.
