Hong Kong

A couple of weeks ago, Lindsay and I had a four day weekend, so we took full advantage of it and went to Hong Kong. Oddly enough, it was Lindsay's first time (and this is odd because she has lived in Taiwan for 5 years and going to Hong Kong from Taiwan is like going from Fredericton to Montreal on a road trip. It's just something you end up doing more than once.) Anyway, it was great. Hong Kong is like the New York or London of Asia. It's just one of those cities. Very cool town.

Here's Hong Kong from the top of Victoria Peak. Victoria Peak is one of the many mountains in Hong Kong. The city is an interesting place in that it is a perfect example of man conquering nature. Greater Hong Kong is all built on mountains and islands. There are tunnels going through mountains all over the place. There are also 6 tunnels under the harbour, connecting Hong Kong island with Kowloon. There are bridges everywhere. You will see fifty story apartment buildings built on the top of cliffs. It looks like they could tip over at any moment. The whole city is built straight up. There's even a cable car that can take you up to the peak. It's basically like a train going up a 45 degree angle. The airport was built on man-made island and they have also reclaimed land at the harbor by building outward. Whether all this is good for the environment or not, I don't know. But it is quite impressive.
And here's us on the top of Victoria Peak.
That's Tim on the left. He's a friend from Taichung who lives in Hong Kong now. That's his girlfriend on the right. We are in an Indian restaurant that was very good (it also had a foosball table where I played against the owner's little daughter. And yes, I let her win.)
This isn't the best picture but it's a shot of Hong Kong at night from Kowloon. All the buildings are lit up. As lame as it sounds, just watching the city from the other side of the harbour is actually very enjoyable.
Lindsay and Sarah Bowen (she lives in Hong Kong now) on the Avenue of Stars. It's like their Hollywood walk of fame. Apparently, Hong Kong is the third biggest place for movie production - after Hollywood and Bollywood.
